No the car wasn't running.
I'm going to pick up a voltmeter today so I can check to see if the juice is getting to the starter. The live wire for the starter runs behind the air box and under the battery box so who knows what condition it's in. The main ground connection and a bunch of other wires are also routed behind there and are covered with old oil and grime...
If that's not the problem, I'll have to pull off the crankcase cover and check the starter clutch.
